For AK47 ammo, which is better or they about the same?

My Saiga 223 shoots both with the same degree of accuracy and to the same point of impact at 100 yards. I think the AR guys prefer the zinc-plated Silver Bear to eliminate the possibility of lacquer build-up in tighter-chambered AR-15s. |
Re: silver vs brown bear
As long as you clean the Ak afterwards....... it really shouldnt make much a difference........ I would go with the one I can get the most of.
Run it through your puppy and if not pleased with how it feeds........ you now have a EXCELLENT barter or charity item. Cant lose either way IMO. T |
Re: silver vs brown bear
Those results look a little suspect to say the least. A better control would be:
A sandbagged rest. Three AK variants. One magazine per rifle. Three shooters. Five to ten shots, slow-fired groups with a 5-minute cool-down after each brand. What type of "mag failures" were they getting and why? A lot of AK-47.net shooters prefer Golden Tiger for it's accuracy, clean burning, and reliability...go figure. |
Re: silver vs brown bear
Since Ive never seen a silver bear around these parts, I always load mine with brown bear.
I really wonder who the hell uses that golden bear stuff! |
Re: silver vs brown bear
I've only shot Brown Bear and I like it more than WOLF.
Interested in who here has used the Silver Bear ammo. |
Re: silver vs brown bear
Well, it seems that Brown Bear is 123-grain and Silver Bear is 125-grain.
Silver Bear is rated slightly better as a 'close' substitute for commercial match ammunition. I think the stats are too close to make a difference in an AK....... Probably both differ in preference only. |
Re: silver vs brown bear
I've got a WASR-10 and have shot about 500 rounds through it in total. I can't shoot much because I have to go to a friend's farm to shoot my AK.
But I bought a deep supply of all these rounds (at CheaperThanDirt, Sportsman'sGuide, Midway) and sampled atleast 3 boxes of each, just to make sure they all hit reliably to point of aim. My test was much like this test, I SWEAR: Silver Bear, Brown Bear, Wolf HP, FMJ and even 154gr SP, and Golden Tiger... I had NO FTF. I had NO FTE. Reliability was 100% with 30-round steel mags, 75-round Romanian and Chinese Drums ... all function was flawless 100% RELIABLE ALL THE TIME. :ok: Groups seemed about the same size, 3 out of 5 would be tight with maybe 2 fliers that would open the otherwise tight group. I couldn't tell any difference in accuracy at 50-100 yards. I can hit a soup can at 100 yards maybe 90% of the time -- if I do my part. THAT'S JUST FINE. This is not my target gun... :ok: I stocked up most heavily on the Golden Tiger since it is the only one with a boat-tail, and boat tails are generally superior at wind bucking and retention of velocity downrange. :ok: I'm being 100% honest in saying the "Ammo Shootout" was nothing like my experience shooting my 'slightly custom*' cheap WASR-10. *Installed a 4x BSA scope on Belarus side-mount, an American G2 trigger group, and stainless steel gas piston, and recoil buffer before the 1st shot was ever fired. |
